CAnDI  /  About Research initiative · Howest

A process in motion.

CAnDI is a research initiative from CADR at HOWEST Brugge, University of Applied Sciences, exploring how AI can be integrated meaningfully into the design process — across spatial design, mixed experience design, graphic design and architecture.

We document the work honestly, mid-process: workflows and principles over exact data, with proofs of concept the team can adopt today.

— The researchers —

Three disciplines,
one research group.

Our research group is part of CADR at Howest University of Applied Sciences.
CADR brings together expertise from three creative disciplines:

This interdisciplinary environment allows us to explore AI from visual, spatial and experiential perspectives.

— What we do —

We explore AI through:

The CAnDI Design Process Platform was created for emerging designers, design students, and professionals looking to integrate AI into their workflow and make their design process more efficient, informed and reflective.

Rather than focusing solely on tools, we focus on where and how AI can support specific activities throughout the design process.

The framework presented on this platform draws inspiration from the design methodologies used within Architecturaal & Bouwkundig Ontwerp, Mixed Experience Design, and Online & Offline Graphic Design at Howest University of Applied Sciences, as well as professional workflows gathered from industry practice and personal design processes.

For AI tools and resources, we collaborate with AIUpdate.be — our companion platform for discovering, testing and comparing AI tools.

Have you conducted interesting research, experiments, or developed workflows related to AI in the creative industries? We'd love to hear from you. Get in touch and help us expand the platform.
